Monday morsel, birthday edition: "You've Got a Friend in Me"

Jonathan is 12 years old today.  Happy birthday and lots of love to a friendly, enthusiastic, affectionate boy!

For today's "Monday morsel," here is one of Jonathan's favourite songs.  This is from the "Toy Story" soundtrack (you can listen to it here):

"You've Got A Friend In Me"

You've got a friend in me
You've got a friend in me
When the road looks rough ahead
And you're miles and miles from your nice warm bed
You just remember what your old pal said
Boy you've got a friend in me
Yeah you've got a friend in me

You've got a friend in me
You've got a friend in me
You got troubles and I got 'em too
There isn't anything I wouldn't do for you
We stick together, we can see it through
'Cause you've got a friend in me
You've got a friend in me

Some other folks might be a little bit smarter than I am
Bigger and stronger too
Maybe
But none of them will ever love you the way I do
It's me and you, boy

And as the years go by
Our friendship will never die
You're gonna see it's our destiny
You've got a friend in me
You've got a friend in me
You've got a friend in me

AND here is a video of my friend, singer-songwriter Jeanine Noyes, singing that very song at a garage sale yesterday!

    1. Thanks, Laura! When Jonathan used to watch Toy Story more frequently than he does now (we had a VHS tape of it), he would often lose interest after that song was over ... which was about ten minutes in. :-)

  4. Happy Birthday, Jonathan! What a milestone birthday, last year before the teens :)
And that song - it always gets to me, the happy/sad/fun of it - faithfulness no matter what. Reminds me of this incredible quote from Albert Schweitzer: "All the good we may recognize or desire is nothing in itself and leads nowhere unless it is strengthened in the thought of faithfulness. It is just like the hardening of metal. No one can explain how it happens. First it is weak and pliable, but then it becomes a hundred times as strong as it was before. Nor can we explain how every human virtue only achieves strength and fulfillment after it has been hardened on the anvil of faithfulness."
Wishing you all a very happy Jonathan's Birthday!

    1. Thanks, Franceen! I love the Schweitzer quote, too -- "hardened on the anvil of faithfulness." Certainly food for thought, isn't it?

  5. Happy Birthday, Jonathan!

Your son has fine taste in songs, Jeannie. Randy Newman is a poet of the highest order, able to put to words what most of us might articulate only in the vaguest sense but feel in the deepest ways.
