Three seconds of fun

What lasts only three seconds yet creates hours of fun for the whole family?

This mini-video that Richard made by accident one day when Jonathan was sitting on his lap, looking at pictures on the iPad.

Jonathan has watched this video at least fifty times and laughs hysterically every time.  And who are we to deny him his three seconds of fame?

  1. I hit replay a few times and I have to agree with Jonathan -- it gets better the more times you watch it!!! :D

    1. Funny about that, isn't it? By the way Allison loved the "Let it Go" video, too!

    3. I was just thinking about Jonathan replaying those three seconds over and over. It reminded me of something I read somewhere about how God patiently repeats delightful things for us ad infinitum. It's as if He says "Do it again!" every morning. Does that sound familiar? Where did I read that? I'll try to find it. C.S. Lewis maybe?

    4. I found it:

"Because children have abounding vitality, because they are in spirit fierce and free, therefore they want things repeated and unchanged. They always say, "Do it again"; and the grown-up person does it again until he is nearly dead. For grown-up people are not strong enough to exult in monotony. But perhaps God is strong enough to exult in monotony. It is possible that God says every morning, "Do it again" to the sun; and every evening, "Do it again" to the moon. It may not be automatic necessity that makes all daisies alike; it may be that God makes every daisy separately, but has never got tired of making them. It may be that He has the eternal appetite of infancy; for we have sinned and grown old, and our Father is younger than we." ~ G.K. Chesterton! (You read Orthodoxy, Jeannie -- maybe I got this from you!)

    5. Yes, Adriana, this was one of my "Monday morsels": see this post from earlier this year http://prinsenhouse.blogspot.ca/2013/06/monday-morsel-do-it-again.html
Speaking of C.S. Lewis, I think he says (somewhere!) that it's a mistake to try to repeat/recreate perfect moments. But I think that's a different thing from this idea that God may be "young enough" and "strong enough" to delight in monotony. I think C.S. Lewis is warning against the idea that we can control circumstances to make things just as good as they once were.

    6. C.S. Lewis must have tried to take a picture of five clean, smiling kids with their faces turned to the camera and the lighting just so. If the opportunity is missed, no amount of coaxing will bring that perfect moment back! :-)

    7. Someone sounds bitter... Ha ha just kidding. Yes, when it comes to kids' photos, the window of opportunity is very, very small.

  2. I couldn't help grinning while watching that a couple times too, Jeannie. And I really appreciate the conversation between you and Adriana too. Chesterton's take on being able to enjoy life as a child is excellent.

    1. It is, isn't it -- the idea that the Father may be younger than we jaded adults. Maybe we should watch silly videos more often just to make ourselves laugh like little kids!
